Working with Pictures - Alternate Text

Fred March 27th, 2007

By adjusting your picture properties you are able to provide “alternate text” for your images. Alternate text is optional, but very important and is usually overlooked by most website developers. Have you ever been on a web page, moved your pointer over a picture and had a little box pop-up with text about the picture or website? That is alternate text at work. While it’s helpful to your visitors it also plays a role in optimizing your website for the search engines. Providing a description about your images helps the search engines catalog and rank your page’s content.
